Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic system that straightens your teeth and improves your bite with a series of clear plastic aligners.

Your aligners are made from an impression of your teeth. They fit snugly and comfortably in your mouth and are designed to exert a small, but consistent amount of pressure on your teeth. By wearing your aligners consistently for several months, this tiny yet constant pressure gradually pushes your teeth into proper alignment.

Invisalign achieves all of the same results as braces but does so with less time and hassle. This is why over six million people worldwide have chosen Invisalign to get to their dream smile.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign treats a variety of orthodontic conditions, such as:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Invisalign can effectively treat nearly every orthodontic condition for which braces are used. If you want to make your smile look and function better without having to go through treatment with traditional metal braces, then you’re an excellent candidate for Invisalign.

What’s the process of getting Invisalign?

Dr. Simic first takes an impression of your mouth, either with a dental mold or an intraoral scanner, which she uses to make a virtual model of your smile. That virtual model is then manipulated to determine what steps need to be taken to push your teeth into their proper alignment, essentially creating a virtual roadmap of your journey towards your dream smile.

Dr. Simic sends that roadmap to a lab that fabricates a series of clear plastic aligners modeled after each of the “steps” on that journey. You wear each set of aligners for two weeks, taking them out only to brush, floss, or eat. After two weeks, you move on to the next aligner in your series as you get closer to your dream smile.

At the end of your journey, you’ll have straighter teeth and a more beautiful smile, and because Invisalign retainers are nearly invisible in your mouth, nobody will know that you were ever undergoing orthodontic treatment!

Why should I get Invisalign?

Straight teeth aren’t only more aesthetically pleasing, they’re actually better for your oral health. Properly aligned teeth are less prone to excessive wear and tear, less likely to cause jaw problems like TMJ disorder, and are easier to keep clean, which helps you fight against tooth decay and gum disease.

As an orthodontic treatment, Invisalign offers a number of advantages over traditional metal braces, such as:

Comfort

Invisalign’s clear plastic aligners don’t tear up the inside of your mouth, unlike metal braces.

Convenience

With Invisalign, you can brush, floss, and eat like normal. Simply pop out your trays and pop them back in when you’re done. No more getting food stuck in your braces or special tools to clean your teeth.

Discretion

Invisalign’s clear plastic aligners are virtually invisible in your mouth, so you won’t have to worry about the embarrassment of having a mouth full of metal.
